ZEAL Creative is thrilled to announce the appointment of Andy Stanton to the role of Creative Director.
Andy describes himself as a creator of ‘big ideas that shoppers buy into’. He has 19 years’ experience as ideas man, writer, art director and hands on designer working for some of the UK’s premier activation agencies, both full time and as an embedded freelance specialist.
His passion lies is in creating high profile activation campaigns for some the world’s biggest FMCG brands and his priority is always effectiveness.
Andy did much of his most famous work at the highly regarded BTL/Activation specialist, The Big Kick, from 2008-2012, where he had the pleasure to lead the creative charge on brands such as Walkers, KitKat, Stella Artois, Randoms, Beck’s, Pizza Hut, Tesco, Warburton’s and Carphone Warehouse.
His role in the ‘World Flavour Cup’ and ‘Win £10 When it Rains’ campaigns for Walkers have both become industry leading case studies and his highly innovative ‘KitKat – We’ll Find You’ campaign was a first in the UK to use GPS to locate and reward cash winners in a national activation campaign.
There, he also helped to launch Beck’s no alcohol beer in the UK and created probably one of the most impactful multi-packs for Stella Artois ever seen in the beers aisle by visually turning the pack into a DVD rack on shelf.
Following his stint at The Big Kick, Andy moved to Toucan where, as CD he rebranded and repositioned the agency with creativity at its fore – a positioning and logo design that won various international awards for design and art direction and inspired the team and still lives on to this day. He also picked up more International awards for his Tate & Lyle B2B Trade Shopper Direct mail work and Gold at the IPM with his innovative Tracklements Tombola activation campaign using a simple cloakroom ticket for the on-pack communication. He also brought the magic of Easter home to Families with a campaign for Lindt Gold Bunny that saw a 64% YOY sales uplift.
More recently, Andy was Creative Director at TLC Marketing (IPM Agency of the Year 2018) and then at Geometry@JWT in Knightsbridge, helping Diageo and Guinness to ‘own pubs’ during the major rugby tournaments including the recent 6 nations and upcoming World Cup.
Andy describes his creative approach and what he feels is special about ZEAL:
To me, every touchpoint in a Shopper journey is an opportunity to be innovative and create memorable disruption. I love my job because a simple creative idea can change behaviour that can be measured so clearly. Creative Effectiveness is the key.
Being able to do that with such global brands including Kellogg’s, Nestlé and Pringles, and working with such experts in their field as Stewart, Rob and Rachel along with such a passionate team was an opportunity I had to take.
At ZEAL I’ve found a group of dedicated, like-minded people who personify their business name. They reminded me of why I wanted to work in the creative industry as a teenager.
They really do recognise the importance of big idea creativity and insightful disruption along Shopper path to purchase and the true meaning of a team effort to do it. It’s a pleasure to come to work.
With Andy’s arrival, the co-founder of ZEAL, Stewart Hilton is finally able to move into the role of Creative Partner:
‘We had been tracking Andy’s work for a while as his campaigns feature on many of our ‘wish we had done’ lists. It was genuinely exciting when he got in touch with us and when we met and found out that he’s also a lovely guy that shares our values, we knew we had to get him on board. Andy is highly talented with an armful of awards behind him (13 at last count) but yet he sees them all as a team effort. He is just as interested in developing the skills and prospects of his creative team as he is in crafting the next big idea for our clients. His hands-on impact has been felt immediately. Given his extensive experience, Andy has been able to take over much of the day-to-day creative responsibilities, leaving me much more freedom to get involved (with him and the team) on the bigger picture creative briefs for our clients, as well as building a best in class creative resource to support our growth.’
Outside of work, Andy has a passion for Snooker, Rugby, Football, 80s films, New Retro Wave music and longs for that Back to the Future time machine to visit the decade again as a grown up. When he can, he loves to visit the Suffolk Coast and listen to the sea.
Andy is already crafting great new ideas for our clients that are proving a joy to share. We are excited about where his input will take us next.
